Being located on the St. Johns River and the Atlantic Ocean has definitely been beneficial to the growth of the city of Jacksonville as well as its industry. Jacksonville Florida is the 2nd largest port on the East Coast and it is the largest deepwater port in the South. It is a major port for auto imports. Jacksonville International Airport is also a major factor focal point and port of entry and shipping into and out of the USA.
Jacksonville is the 13th most populous city in the USA. It is also has the largest population of all cities in Florida. In 2000 Jacksonville had a medium income of $40,243 per family.
Jacksonville has been lucky in regards to hurricane damages. Since 1871 the city has only been directly hit by one hurricane although it has been hit by hurricanes coming from the Western part of the state, from the Gulf of Mexico.
